LOS ANGELES, December 19, 2007 - Premiere Radio Networks' syndicated hosts John Boy and Billy have reached a fundraising milestone of more than $550,000 in support of Operation USO Care Package, a program that allows the public to support American men and women in uniform. With only a couple weeks left in 2007, their fundraising efforts have totaled $88,900 for this year alone.
The hosts teamed up with the USO in 2003, and each year have increased donations by inviting soldiers, veterans and USO representatives as guests of the radio program to spread the word about the USOs work. By visiting www.thebigshow.com, supporters can make a $25 donation to the USO, which allows them to sponsor a care package full of personal, requested supplies that will be delivered to deployed service men and women. USO care package donors are also encouraged to include a personal note to the recipient.
Due to heightened security, individuals can no longer send letters and packages to "Any Service Member." Recognized and approved by the Department of Defense, the USO Care Package program provides a bridge between the American public and military personnel. Care packages contain items such as prepaid international calling cards, toiletries, sunscreen, refreshments and other items requested by troops. For more information about the Operation USO Care Package program, visit www.usocares.org. To learn more about the USO, visit www.uso.org.
