"Petros & Money" Covered Today's Dodger Ownership Press Conference on Dodger Radio AM570 FOX Sports LA
LOS ANGELES, May 2, 2012 -- Dodger Radio AM570 FOX Sports LA took a break from regularly scheduled programming to cover this morning's much anticipated press conference officially announcing the sale of the Dodgers and introducing the Guggenheim Baseball Management Team. Broadcasting live from Dodger stadium, afternoon hosts Petros & Money stepped in to bring the action to Los Angeles listeners throughout the event. The conference focused on a positive new beginning for the Dodgers, opened by legendary announcer Vin Scully and featuring speeches from Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, and key players in the new Dodgers management team.
Petros & Money scored post-conference interviews with new CEO Stan Kasten and new owners Mark Walter and Magic Johnson, who called Petros Papadakis out before the conference began. The one-on-one interviews aired during the afternoon show. Below are some highlights from the interviews, along with photos and links to the audio available exclusively at www.am570radio.com:
Smith: "Were you surprised at the line of questioning surrounding the McCourts? Did you kind of know what the atmosphere was out here regarding his ownership?"
Kasten: "It was a negative chapter that a lot of people have strong feelings about...What I can say to you is that we're all about moving forward...None of that affects anything that involves the Dodgers anymore. Not the team, not the fan experience, and not our community relations efforts. And so we think we have a clean slate with the right people, with the right amount of resources to get the job done, and keep all the fans happy.
Papadakis: "Now that it's actually starting, and we're all celebrating, and everybody's excited here in the city of Los Angeles, what's the first order of business?"
Walter: "We'd like to hear from the fans. We set up that site so people can go there and tell us what they want. I told the players on Sunday that, you know... the fans come first. Without the fans, you're just back in Iowa playing catch."
Papadakis: "Congratulations Magic. What's crackin' man?"
Johnson: "Well, what's crackin' is these, the Dodgers. That's it. You know, I'm so happy to be a part of this new ownership group...When you think about the Dodger pride and the Dodger organization, it's been first class for a long time...and we want to get back to that."
Papadakis: "You put the fear of god into me when you came out here! Why did you stalk me like that? Were you going to tackle me or cut me down?"
Johnson: "I said man, I saw my man there, I listen to him all the time on USC football...You exude passion and love for what you do. And when I met with our employees, I said you need to bring that every single day here to the ballpark. Because if you bring it, our fans win, then the players feel that. They win, they play better. So, that's what I talk to them about and that's what we're going to do here."
